Fun Family & Good Friends – that's what life should be about

Brave

The Bug and I had a mummy daughter day this week.

We went to see Brave, which in my opinion is one of the best kids movies I’ve seen in a long time.  I love that the storyline is mother-daughter centric, not based around the theory that the princess needs a prince to ‘save her’, my issue with so many kids movies.

The characters are beautifully humanly flawed, they make mistakes and learn from them.  Merida, the flame haired princess, is a strong independent female trying to find her way in a world that has decided her fate for her, a world that is constantly telling her who and what she should be.

It’s a story of finding your own way, accepting yourself and others, learning from others, forgiveness, and the importance of communication and family.  I love that these messages are being given to our children.

I also loved the short movie at the start, La Luna.  As a long time stargazer, this magical little story was captivatingly simple and eloquent, with similar themes to Brave – family, acceptance, communication, finding yourself.
